How many U.S. drivers admit to texting while driving?

Answer: 70 percent of drivers admit to texting while driving, according to a study by the American Automobile Association.

Combine that fact with a Virginia Tech study that concluded that texting drivers are 23.2 times likelier to be involved in an accident, and you begin to see how big of a problem it is, Gizmag reporoted.

A new technology on the market, however, aims to stop the dangerous practice -- it won’t let your car start unless your phone is plugged into the device. Called ORIGOSafe, the device "is being marketed more as something that parents could use to keep their adolescent kids from doing so, or that fleet managers could use with their driver," according to Gizmag.
