Who could help you decide what to wear today?

Answer: Amazon

Amazon has come a long way since its early days as a book retailer. Now you can do anything on the platform from having toilet paper delivered to your door to streaming television into your living room. But with a new feature the company is quietly releasing, Amazon is getting in on the fashion game.

With Outfit Compare, Amazon Prime subscribers can upload two head-to-toe photos of themselves to the Amazon mobile app wearing two different outfits, and a staff of fashion experts will decide which looks better. Options for their reply include “Definitely pick this one!” “We like this better” and “It was a close call.”

Tests found that users got their judgment back in under a minute — although the speed left some suspicious that it wasn’t just a bot on the other end — and the app says it considers “fit, color, styling and current trends” in its sartorial proclamation.

Although currently it seems there is nothing in it for Amazon to help customers get dressed in the morning, early users speculate Outfit Compare may eventually be used to better target merchandise to potential buyers or improve the company’s clothing offerings.
