When speaking for the last time, what’s the most common word used by death row inmates?

Answer: love

According to an analysis of transcripts provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the most common word used in the last words of death row inmates is “love,” with 689 mentions – a nearly 63 percent hit rate.

Second place is “family” with 307 mentions, followed by “thank” and then “sorry.” Inmates frequently express gratitude to their mothers – more than three times more often than a mention of the father. According to the analysis, this occurrence could be attributed to the fact that most death row inmates have a history of parental abandonment, foster care or institutionalization.
