The National Weather Service announced April 11 that it would abandon its weather broadcasts published in all capital letters, a holdover from the days of typewriters connected by telephone lines.
"LISTEN UP!" NOAA spokesperson Susan Buchanan wrote in an email, "BEGINNING ON MAY 11, NOAA’S NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS WILL STOP YELLING AT YOU."
The change is enabled by an upgrade to the agency’s computer system.
