What did a Michigan judge do after his smartphone went off during court proceedings?

Answer: held himself in contempt and imposed a $25 fine

After his smartphone accidentally went off in court -- emitting embarrasing voice commands, according to betabeat.com -- Judge Raymond Voet held himself in contempt and paid a $25 fee.

During a hearing, while the prosecutor was making his closing arguments, Voet said he thinks he accidentally bumped his new Windows phone (he's a former BlackBerry user). "It started talking really loud, saying ‘I can’t understand you. Say something like Mom,’” he told betabeat.com, adding that this is an excuse -- something he doesn't take from anyone else in his courtroom.

"I set the bar high, because cellphones are a distraction and there is very serious business going on. The courtroom is a special place in the community, and it needs more respect than that.”
