What gas does one award-winning robot detect?

A methane-gas detecting robot earned Tony Smoktonowicz of Owens Community College in Ohio a spot as a NASA’s Community College Aerospace Scholar. His robot could be used to detect the presence of methane gas in landfills where owners have scant opportunity to detect the gases otherwise. NASA also has an interest in detecting gases in environments where people can’t easily go.
