A New York City taxi policy chief is leaving to work for which company?

Answer: Uber

Ashwini Chhabra, deputy commissioner of policy and planning at the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, will join car service company Uber as the start-up’s first head of development and community engagement.

Uber has faced opposition in many large cities as their app disrupts the market. At Uber, Chhabra will join several other former city officials from New York and Chicago. Uber now operates in more than 100 cities, but still faces regulatory hurdles as stakeholders already entrenched in the industry attempt to limit the reach of services like Uber and Lyft. Las Vegas is among Uber’s next targets and already is facing opposition as cities like Seattle lead the way in restricting competition in the taxi and livery service marketplace.
