For what invention did a high school student recently win a $50,000 Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award?

Answer: a fast-charging energy storage device

The energy storing device created by Eesha Khare, 18, can be fully charged in 20 to 30 seconds, and was used to power an LED during testing.

Called a "supercapacitor," the device is bendable, and can also sustain beyond 10,000 recharge cycles, compared with the usual 1,000 recharge cycles of a typical rechargeable battery.
