The same technology found in noise-canceling headphones can increase the speed and reliability of fiber optic data transmission, according to researchers who published their findings on Nature.com. Using phrases like “dispersive nonlinear transmission” and “nonlinear Schrödinger equation,” researchers explained how they succeeded in transmitting data at 400 Gb s⁻¹ over 8,000 miles of fiber.
