What new power-producing fabric is thin enough to wrap around a pencil?

Answer: ultra-thin photovoltaics from South Korea

Researchers from South Korea recently reported the invention of a new super-thin solar fabric in the journal Applied Physics Letters.

The material is about 1 micrometer thick, which is thinner than human hair. Likely uses for such a material include wearable electronics and smart clothing that require a power source. Scientists achieved a thinner product by stamping the cells onto the fabric without using glue, instead opting for a "cold welding" process, Phys.org reported.
