The Kilton Public Library in Lebanon, N.H., became the nation's first library to offer the use of Tor, a piece of software that enables users a relatively private and anonymous Internet surfing experience. Tor is somewhat controversial because in addition to sheltering honest people who wish to safeguard their privacy, it is also a common tool for those who have things to hide.
But libraries are bastions of freedom, said Shari Steele, executive director of the Tor Project, and it's a natural fit that they should use the tool.
Tor is available on four computers at the library, but how many people have used the functionality is unknown because they were anonymous, Phys.org
reported.
