How did a robot lawyer save citizens $4 million collectively?

Answer: by getting parking tickets thrown out

A bot driven by artificial intelligence called DoNotPay has gotten more than 160,000 parking tickets totaling more than $4 million thrown out in London and New York City. The bot begins by asking the ticketee a series of questions to see if an appeal is possible, and then guides the user through the appeals process. The bot's success rate is about 64 percent.

“I think the people getting parking tickets are the most vulnerable in society. These people aren’t looking to break the law. I think they’re being exploited as a revenue source by the local government,” second-year Stanford University student and bot inventor Joshua Browder told Venture Beat.

The robot's law office, which also seeks compensation for delayed flights, can be found at donotpay.co.uk.
