What heavenly body does NASA intend to map?

A near-Earth asteroid called Bennu is the destination of NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft, scheduled to launch this September with one objective: to harvest a sample of the asteroid and return it to Earth for study in hopes of finding organic material.

To understand the asteroid's overall composition and to figure out which part of the asteroid to harvest from, the craft will use a visible and infrared light scanner. The data gathered will allow researchers to create a map of the asteroid's surface. More about the mission can be found at Phys.org.
