What company wants to track customers by taking pictures of their shoes?

Answer: Disney

Disney was awarded a patent for a system that would take photos of the footwear worn by the guests at their amusement parks. These images would be stored in a database, along the visitor's name, personal interests and other personal information like hometown.

Sensors and cameras placed throughout the park would then scan people's footwear to figure out which attractions they enjoy and how they move throughout the park. Show-scanning robots would also roam the park alongside Mickey Mouse and Princess Jasmine, snapping shots of people's feet.

Though not yet implemented, Disney already tracks some of its users via an opt-in wristband program called MagicBand, which allows visitors to skip ahead in lines and gain other minor perks.
