What new food item is on the menu for NASA astronauts?

Answer: lettuce

Thanks to NASA’s “Veggie” plant growth system, NASA astronauts at the International Space Station are now sampling fresh romaine lettuce grown in space. The astronauts will clean the lettuce with citric acid-based sanitizing wipes before eating. Half of the lettuce will be eaten and the other half will be shipped to Earth for testing.
