What did the Big Ear radio telescope do on this day in 1977?

Answer: Received a radio signal from deep space. The telescope, operated by Ohio State University as part of the SETI project, was used to search for extraterrestrial radio signals. The event was named “Wow! signal” after a notation was made by a project volunteer.
