What’s so special about a dog from Cormorant, Minn., named Duke?

Answer: He was re-elected as the town’s mayor for the third year in a row

Duke, a Great Pyrenees canine living in Cormorant, Minn., enjoys belly rubs, licking the ground and governing the people. Duke was recently elected as mayor of his town of 1,000 residents for the third term in a row.

"I don't know who would run against him," local Karen Nelson told WDAY 6. "He's done such great things for the community."

Duke’s career in politics started by accident in 2014 when several voters wrote him in — and only 12 votes total had been cast. According to WDAY 6, the 9-year old dog maintains one of the highest approval ratings in the country.
