Pizza drones are about to be cleared for takeoff in which country?

Answer: New Zealand

Dominos has in recent years proven itself to be at the forefront of pizza delivery technology, unveiling plans for drone delivery both on the ground and in the sky. And it now appears their ambitions may soon manifest in the form of the world’s first pizza delivery by unmanned aerial vehicle.

On Aug. 25, Dominos demonstrated the technology in Auckland, New Zealand, as part of an approval process to use the technology as part of normal operations.

“We’ve always said that it doesn’t make sense to have a 2-tonne machine delivering a 2-kilogram order,” Domino’s Group CEO and managing director Don Meij said in a statement. The use of drones, “is the next stage of the company’s expansion into the artificial intelligence space and gives us the ability to learn and adopt new technologies in the business.”

New Zealand was chosen because its air traffic regulations allow businesses to use drones. Delivery trials are expected to begin later this year.
