Smartphones running Google's Android operating system now account for 41.8 percent of total mobile subscribers in the U.S., according to statistics released by comScore this week. Apple's iPhone is second at 27 percent.
Android's market share has increased 5.4 percentage points since comScore's last measurement in April, while iPhone has gone up 1 percent.
Research in Motion, maker of the Blackberry, is the third-place platform, at 21.7 percent (down 4 points since last spring). Microsoft is in fourth with 5.7 percent.
