How can blind mothers-to-be "see" their ultrasound images?
Answer: via 3-D printing
A project from Poland called In Utero 3D gives blind mothers a chance to experience their unborn baby's face via a bas-relief imprint. Anyone with a 3-D ultrasound file can send it to the group and receive a physical model of their child's face. For Polish women, the service is provided for the cost of about 25 cents after proof of blindness has been confirmed. Mothers outside the country may still use the service for file conversion, but must handle the 3-D printing on their own.
