Which industry leads the pack when it comes to data breaches?

According to a report from Gemalto (PDF), the health-care sector is leading the way in greatest number of data breaches, tallying 187 during the first half of this year. The report concluded that 34 percent of the industry's records had been compromised, amounting to 84 million records.

Government found its way into the No. 2 spot with 77.2 million records exposed, which accounted for 31.4 percent of all government records.

In those six months, 62 percent of the incidents were perpetrated by malicious outsiders, the report found, while 22 percent of the breaches were the result of an accidental loss.
