Who is demanding that animals be allowed to hold copyright?

Answer: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

Last year, a black macaque took a photo of itself after snatching a photographer's camera, setting off a copyright battle. Some said the photo didn't belong to anyone, while the photographer said it was his camera, so the photo belonged to him. But PETA says it belongs to the animal that took the photo, arguing that the law doesn't specify to which species the law applies, therefore Naruto, the photographer monkey, is entitled to ownership of his photo. A lawsuit filed by PETA on Sept. 22 will set a new legal precedent, one way or another.
