Which governor recently signed legislation that put actors at odds with the technology community?

Answer: California Gov. Jerry Brown

On Saturday, Sept. 24, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB-1687, which requires certain entertainment websites, like the popular IMDb, to remove an actor’s age or birthday upon request (or not post it in the first place).

While many in the acting community applaud passage of the law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the tech community sees it as a violation of free speech.

“We are disappointed that AB 1687 was signed into law today,” Internet Association spokesman Noah Theran said in a statement. “We remain concerned with the bill and the precedent it will set of suppressing factual information on the Internet.”
