How much water does a new type of concrete absorb per minute?

Answer: 880 gallons

A new type of "topmix permeable" concrete made by Lafarge Tarmac can absorb 880 gallons of water per minute. The manufacturers are hopeful that the technology can help to prevent urban flooding as the porous surface diverts large volumes of water rain to a drainage system where it can re-enter the groundwater.

The technology might not work in cold-weather locations, however, because the absorbed water could freeze, expand and damage the concrete.
