Which state is leading a regional partnership on energy grid modernization and green building practices?

Answer: Washington

The U.S. Department of Energy is matching a $2.25 million Clean Energy Fund grant from the Washington Department of Commerce to pursue new ways to be smarter about energy consumption. DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Washington State University and the University of Washington are working together on the project, which will include research to develop technologies needed to create smart buildings, cities and campuses that better manage energy usage.

The project builds on the recently completed Pacific Northwest Smart Grid Demonstration Project, the results of which were published in June in an 840-page report. The goal of the project is to develop electronic equipment and devices that can communicate and reduce energy consumption based on demand, time of day and other human-centered factors, Phys.org reported.
