Emoji reactions have become a very popular feature across a range of platforms from iMessage to Microsoft Teams and Slack, but so far they’ve been pretty much limited to messaging mediums. Google, however, is planning to change that.

At its I/O 2021 event this week, Google revealed that it was planning to bring emoji reactions to what is arguably one of its most popular platforms: Google Docs. When the feature goes live, users will be able to leave an emoji beneath a word or series of words in order to tell others how they feel about them.

Google didn’t announce a timeline for when the reactions will start rolling out, only that it was scheduled for later this year. The company also didn't reveal which emojis would be available at launch.
