Are you currently more likely to get a job than be accepted into Harvard?

Answer: No.

If you’ve felt like navigating the job market is incredibly difficult right now, it’s not just you. Data from hiring-software provider Greenhouse says that getting a job is currently more difficult than getting into a prestigious Ivy League school.

Per Greenhouse, employers last quarter received 242 applications for the average job opening. That puts the chances of each applicant being selected for the job at 0.4 percent. Meanwhile, the acceptance rate for Harvard University currently sits at 3.6 percent.

There are many factors driving this phenomenon, but one of the highest accused suspects is artificial intelligence. With AI making it easier than ever to quickly search and apply for all the jobs you can find, employers are being overwhelmed with resumes, making the process more onerous for all parties involved. Another factor is that we appear to be in a Great Freeze, in which both employers and employees find themselves reluctant to let go.
