This is one use case in which you definitely don’t want artificial intelligence to hallucinate. Ring, maker of smart home security systems, is using AI to tell you exactly what your camera sees happening outside your home.
The new feature will use AI to analyze the first few seconds of motion-activated videos from users’ cameras. It will then send a notification to the user’s device that describes exactly what is happening in the clip, such as “a person with a brown dog is walking up the steps.” The idea is that users can get immediate details on what’s happening outside their home and determine if further attention is required.
“We are just starting to scratch the surface of AI. I feel like we are back to the very early days of Ring again — I see unlimited potential for new experiences we can invent for our neighbors,” said Ring founder and Amazon Vice President of Home Security Jamie Siminoff. The feature is currently rolling out in a beta phase to Ring Home Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.
