Can AI write your Facebook comments for you?

Answer: It can now.

All we need is for artificial intelligence to start writing our posts too, and then we won’t have to interact at all. Facebook parent company Meta has been introducing AI to the platform, and its latest iteration can comment on posts in your stead.

The feature appears as three little symbols next to the “GIF” option when you go to craft a comment on a post. Powered by Llama 2, Meta’s GenAI model, it offers a number of styles in which it can craft a response: insightful, inspirational, heartfelt, casual and supportive.

Once the AI writes a response, you’ll have the chance to edit it (or reject it and write your own, if you so choose). You’ll also get a pop-up from Facebook that explains what GenAI is and how the feature works, as well as a warning that the bot’s content may not always be accurate or appropriate.
