Can Amazon’s palm-reading tech tell how old you are?

Answer: It can now.

Amazon has taken yet another step in its goal of making buying things easier than ever. Amazon One, the e-commerce giant’s palm-reading technology that can be used in lieu of a credit card at checkout, can now verify your age when you scan your palm to purchase alcoholic drinks.

To use the service, customers simply upload photos of an official government-issued I.D. to their Amazon One account, along with a selfie to verify that the I.D. is in fact theirs. Then, when they scan their palm at the bar, the system will send a message to the bartender verifying that they are of age and displaying their uploaded selfie.

Coors Field in Denver, home of the Colorado Rockies baseball team, will be the first venue to offer the technology. “Hearing from Amazon One customers across the country, we understand that they love the convenience it delivers: shorter wait times, quick access to buildings and locations, being able to link their loyalty memberships, and now an easy way to grab their beer,” said Colorado Rockies Senior Director of Food Service Operations and Development John McKay.
