Can Boston Dynamics' robot dogs decorate a Christmas tree?

Answer: Kind of ... and not without casualties.

There are some ways in which the robot takeover could be useful. For those of you who would rather your Christmas tree be decorated for you, an army of Spot robots could do the trick (someday).

Boston Dynamics, the company behind the famous Spot robot dog, released a festive holiday video showing how its robots can work together to put decorations on a Christmas tree. It starts with one Spot entering and surveying a tree that is almost done, but it’s missing a topper, which the robot has on its back. However, even with an extendable arm, the robot is just not tall enough to reach the top of the tree, so it leaves to get help.

It returns with two more Spot bots, which line themselves up in front of the tree and lower themselves down so the first bot can climb on top, they then extend their legs and voila!, Spot is now tall enough to use its arm to put the bow on top of the tree. Keep watching though, because the surprise ending will make you laugh and hopefully ease any fears of an impending robot takeover.
