Can ChatGPT show you what your pet would look like as a human?

Answer: Yes, but be warned, it is a bit unnerving.

People have tried some interesting things with ChatGPT’s new image generator, but this one definitely crosses into “weird” territory. TechRadar’s John-Anthony Disotto decided to test out one of the latest trends — asking the large language model to generate an image of what his pet would look like as a human.

The process was relatively simple, with Disotto uploading a photo of his French bulldog Kermit and entering the prompt “Can you create an image of this dog/cat as a human?” He then had to answer a few follow-up questions to give ChatGPT a little more information to work with. Disotto said he “immediately felt a sense of uncanny valley” when looking at the result, which showed an excited young man in his early 20s wearing a yellow T-shirt with a frog on it.

The bot also churned out an oddly similar image when he asked it to create a human version of one of his colleague’s dogs, even though the dog was a completely different breed from Kermit. That dog’s owner felt the image was “pretty spot on.” The creepiest part of the whole experiment, though, was definitely when Disotto tried to turn the tables and asked ChatGPT to generate an image of what he would look like as a dog. After crashing on the first attempt, the bot came back with an image of a dog in a T-shirt with a human beard, which if you dare to look will definitely be the strangest thing you see all day.
