A new survey from Proof Strategies found that Americans are more likely to trust information when it comes from artificial intelligence than the U.S. government. The 2025 U.S. Trust and AI Survey polled 1,501 adults in the U.S. between Nov. 10-14 on their thoughts on trust and AI.
When asked if they trust AI searches to provide reliable information, 37 percent of respondents said yes. That compares to only 31 percent who said they trust information that comes from the U.S. government. Traditional media remains the strongest source of trust, with 51 percent saying they trust the information from local TV and 47 percent trusting local newspapers. National newspapers and cable news are trusted by 39 percent, while 35 percent trust radio and talk shows.
When it comes to trusting information on social media, it depends on the platform. People trust YouTube the most at 41 percent, per the survey, while 31 percent trust what they see on Facebook. Instagram and X tied at 29 percent, and 20 percent said they trust info on Twitch.
