Does Will Smith’s new concert video have AI-generated crowds?

Answer: It looks that way.

Artificial intelligence can be pretty convincing, but there are times when it just shouldn’t be used in place of the real deal. Like faking crowds of adoring fans, for instance.

Viewers suspect that AI is the reason why some of the crowds in a video promoting Will Smith’s current concert tour look a little, well, unsettling. Some of the crowds definitely look real, but others bear the telltale signs of AI generation with blurry faces and extra appendages.

The video was shared on YouTube with the title “My favorite part of tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too ❤️” and no description. CNET reached out to Smith’s talent agency CAA for comment on the apparent use of AI but did not receive a response.
