Electric vehicles (EVs) are good for the environment, and a good environment is good for your health. It’s not a complete surprise, then, that EVs are saving lives. A recent study found that EVs have saved roughly 262,000 lives in China since 2010 by reducing air pollution.

The study found that increased electric vehicle use has reduced exposure to carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and other harmful pollutants emitted by internal combustion engines. This has correlated to reduced deaths from lung cancer, respiratory illnesses, strokes and heart diseases. Urban areas were seen to benefit the most, likely due to higher rates of EV adoption.
