If you’ve been thinking that ChatGPT has seemed a little slow on the uptake over the last month, you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong. OpenAI, the company behind the wildly popular large language model, confirmed last week that the chatbot is indeed being lazy at the moment.

Multiple users have reported recently that ChatGPT’s answers have been shorter and lackluster, and in some cases it only responds to some of the requests. Overall, it’s just not being as helpful as it used to be. The issue apparently has to do with the bot’s upgrade a month ago.

“Differences in model behavior can be subtle — only a subset of prompts may be degraded, and it may take a long time for customers and employees to notice and fix these patterns,” the official ChatGPT account on X said. OpenAI said it is looking into a fix.
