There are some things that humans should probably continue to do for now. This case was made recently at a graduation ceremony in Arizona that used artificial intelligence to announce the graduates. Some students participating in the May 15 ceremony at Glendale Community College said their names were skipped as they walked across the stage, and some names were also mispronounced.
The ceremony had to be paused, and President Tiffany Hernandez addressed the crowd and informed them that the issue was the result of technical difficulties with a new AI name-reading system. She apologized to the crowd and told the affected graduates that they would not be able to walk across the stage again. But after the crowd voiced its displeasure, the skipped graduates were permitted to walk again while a human read their names instead.
