You may notice some big upgrades the next time you have to go to the post office. The service has announced a number of technological improvements to its physical locations that will improve the customer experience.

These new “technology-forward lobbies” will have 24/7 self-service smart lockers where you can have a package sent via Click-N-Ship, keeping your deliveries secure until you’re ready for them. There will also be updated self-service kiosks that have been known to cut lobby wait times almost in half (40 percent). Wait times should be further reduced by new digital information displays to help guide customers, reducing confusion and speeding up services.

“Modernizing our retail spaces is about meeting customers where they are today,” said Tracy Raymond, director of retail operations. “People expect speed, clarity and technology-driven convenience — and that’s what our new lobbies deliver, while still offering the trusted, in-person attention that defines the Postal Service.”
