Startup Kelekona wants to bring mass transit to the skies — literally. Unlike the many other designs out there, Kelekona’s concept for a flying taxi could more appropriately be described as a flying bus, or even a flying train.

The aircraft is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) craft that definitely looks like something out of the Star Wars universe. It moves using eight thrust-vectoring fans with variable pitch propellors, four on each side. Its frame is 3D printed, and, including 40 passengers and a pilot, it can carry up to 10,000 pounds.

Kelekona hasn’t built any of its machines yet. Right now it’s all just computer simulations, although CEO Braeden Kelekona told Digital Trends, “We feel strongly that we have about plus or minus 2 percent read on all our performance data,” and “I think you can expect to see our aircraft in the air next year.”
