OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT generative AI chatbot, recently retired the GPT-4o version of the model. The Internet, however, is not having it. The petition to reinstate the model initially began circulating last year when GPT-4o faced its first demise.

OpenAI first retired GPT-4o in favor of GPT-5 in 2025, but user backlash was so significant that the company brought 4o back less than 24 hours later. It seems, however, that was only a temporary resurrection, as OpenAI announced Jan. 29 that it would once again be retired on Feb. 13.

The Internet is once again not having it. As of Tuesday morning, the petition on change.org had amassed 21,900 signatures and counting. “For many of us, GPT-4o offers a unique and irreplaceable user experience, combining qualities and capabilities that we value, regardless of performance benchmarks,” the petition says.
