American football is arguably the king of live television, and now it’s coming for the streaming crown too. A recent National Football League (NFL) playoff game was streamed almost exclusively on Peacock, resulting in 2.8 million new subscribers to the service.

Peacock’s parent company NBC and NBC’s parent company Comcast weren’t the ones to release these numbers. The data comes instead from Antenna, a subscription tracking service. According to Antenna, the nearly 3 million signups occurred over the three days leading up to the game on Jan 13. It was also the largest wave of signups ever recorded around a single event.

Comcast did not comment on Antenna’s report. The company is slated to report earnings on Thursday, so we may get some more insight then. But perhaps the bigger question for now is, now that Peacock has all those new subscribers, how long will it be able to keep them?
