A new record was set for the ninth time this summer on Wednesday when electricity demand peaked at 83,961 megawatts, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). That broke the previous record of 83,854 megawatts set a whopping two days prior.
Unfortunately, this new record might not stand for long, as “above-normal to record-breaking heat will continue through the remainder of the week” for Texas, per the National Weather Service. “The combination of heat and humidity will result in dangerous heat indices, possibly climbing above 110 F in some locations.” Yikes.
