With the passing of Pope Francis earlier this week, many have been wondering what happens next in Rome. And they’ve apparently been turning to streaming to find out. According to Luminate, the number of people streaming the film Conclave more than doubled on Monday.
The Oscar-winning film is a fictional drama that depicts what happens when the Vatican must elect a new pope. On Sunday, Luminate reports that 1.8 million minutes of the film were viewed. However, following news of Pope Francis’ passing, views of the film increased to 6.9 million minutes on Monday, a 283 percent increase.
Conclave isn’t the only Catholic content getting more attention at the moment. Luminate reports that Netflix’s The Two Popes went from 290,000 minutes to 1.5 million minutes over the same period, a viewership increase of 417 percent. That film is actually about Francis himself and his relationship with his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI.
