Netflix is letting users sign up for a promotional version of the Streamberry streaming service featured in an episode of the latest season of “Black Mirror.” All you have to do is give Netflix a photo of yourself that it can put on real billboards in the real world as part of an ad campaign.
Mashable’s Shannon Connellan tested it out just to confirm that this is, in fact, real. Using an image of a very adorable and unsuspecting corgi dog rather than her own image, Connellan created a Streamberry profile under the name "Moriarty." She had to “read and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Agreement” as part of the process, which she actually read and noticed that the terms gave Netflix permission to use the profile image she chose.
It wasn’t long before the official "Black Mirror" account tweeted an image of Moriarty on a real billboard in Stratford, London. And Connollen's account wasn’t the only one. Beware what you sign up for.
