As smart glasses have increased in popularity, so have the privacy concerns associated with them. Especially as recent reports have highlighted how some people have been using the technology to film others without their consent.
In response, Yves Jeanrenaud decided to build an app to let people know when smart glasses are in use around them. Nearby Glasses was designed to detect the unique Bluetooth signature that smart glasses use. It then sends a push alert to the user’s phone whenever it picks up a signal. “I consider it to be a tiny part of resistance against surveillance tech,” Jeanrenaud told 404 Media.
