Is there another toilet paper shortage?

Answer: Yes, though fortunately it’s not as extreme as last time.

Americans, it seems, are very, very worried about running out of toilet paper whenever things go wrong. According to Business Insider, many suppliers of the essential bathroom item have seen a notable increase in demand as the delta variant of the coronavirus has swept across the nation and globe.

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that Proctor & Gamble, the largest maker of toilet paper in the country, has ramped up its production to match increasing demand. The company is now running its factories 24/7 and has increased the speed of its production lines. The company is also apparently limiting the amount of product that retailers can purchase.

Smaller retailers in particular are saying they’re having a hard time keeping toilet paper in stock. While increasing demand is partially to blame, the current labor crunch is also having an impact. A shortage of workers in factories has also contributed to delays in production and a shortage of product.
