Don’t get too excited, Taxi Driver fans. Reports that Robert De Niro will be reprising his role from the iconic film for Uber ads have been greatly exaggerated.
Robert De Niro and Uber are indeed partnering on a new ad campaign for the ride-share company. The Sun reported that he would be appearing as Travis Bickle, his character in the 1976 film Taxi Driver. The outlet stated that he would even speak Bickle’s iconic line, “You talkin’ to me?” in the ad.
However, an Uber spokesperson has since confirmed to Gizmodo that De Niro will not be reprising the role in the ads, nor will he reference any lines from the film. “We are filming with Robert De Niro in London for a new Uber U.K. campaign, which will launch later in the year,” the spokesperson said. Guess we’ll have to wait until then to see if any more subtle Taxi Driver references make the cut.
