What celebrity is the voice of air raid warnings in Ukraine?

Answer: Mark Hamill.

A siren on a pole against a blue sky.
Residents of Ukraine can get notifications of impending attacks from rebel hero Luke Skywalker. Actor Mark Hamill, who portrayed the beloved Star Wars character in the films, has donned the mantle again in order to record voice-overs for a Ukrainian air raid app.

Air Alert, which has been linked to the country’s air defense system, is an app that Ukrainians can use to receive warnings of incoming attacks amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. It announces messages like “Attention. Air raid alert. Proceed to the nearest shelter,” “Don’t be careless. Your overconfidence is your weakness,” and “The alert is over. May the Force be with you,” that Hamill recorded as Skywalker.

There are different lines for alerts of missile attacks, shelling, street fighting, radiation and chemical threats. “It’s a very cool phrase for this situation,” Olena Yeremina, a business manager in Kyiv, told the Associated Press. “I wouldn’t say that I feel like a Ukrainian Jedi, but sometimes this phrase reminds me to straighten my shoulders and keep working.”
