Elon Musk announced this week that his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, will build its supercomputer in Memphis, Tenn. The CEO of a number of other companies including Tesla and SpaceX, Musk and xAI had reportedly been discussing plans for the facility with city officials since March.

Per a press briefing announcing the move, this facility is expected to be a “gigafactory of compute, the world’s largest supercomputer.” President of the Greater Memphis Chamber Ted Townsend said that the supercomputer facility could become the “largest multibillion-dollar investment in the city of Memphis’ history.”

The estimated building cost and number of jobs that the facility could create are still being determined. Other details are still scant at this time, although xAI is reportedly considering partnering with Oracle to build the facility. Elon Musk also reportedly said that he hopes the supercomputer will be operational by next fall.
