What could go wrong with a paintball-shooting smart security camera?

Answer: Nothing (wink).

If you never want strangers to approach your house again, PaintCam Eve is your solution. Created by a Slovenian startup, Eve takes automated home security to a whole new level.

First, it uses automatic target marking and facial recognition to identify any humans or animals approaching your home. Anyone it doesn’t recognize as an occupant or approved visitor will be given a warning and asked to leave. If they don’t do so within the allotted time frame, the device will start firing paintball pellets at them with “ultra-high precision.” There’s also the option to escalate things even further with tear gas projectiles instead of paint pellets.

Capable of operating in daylight and at night, Eve is “a vigilant guardian that doesn't sleep, blink or miss a beat,” in the words of its creators. It also features remote access, so if an unidentified person is detected alongside a familiar visitor, the camera can ask what you would like it to do. It also has video storage and playback and can continue operating autonomously if it loses its Internet connection. Just be sure to add your mail carrier, the pizza guy and the latest Amazon driver to the “nice list.”
